Am I An Addict -- Real Questions From Real Users
It's a hard question to ask but an even harder answer to come to terms with. Twenty years ago Mark Houston asked himself that question. Not in such clear and uncertain terms but the question which lead to the answer that got him to be free of cocaine and alcohol got him to where his to today. It got him to be the president of Mark Houston Recovery and dedicate himself to changing the lives of men who have become addicted to drugs or alchol. Maybe they can't ask themselves that question or maybe they had the question answered for them when their life met with the lowest point it could meet. At Mark Houston Recovery, our hope and our goal isn't to help you answer that question -- we already know what the answer is. Our goal is to get you to the point where the answer is clear and the solution is recovery. A solution we can help you attain.
The Question of Addiction
A 27 year old who has experimented with drugs in his early 20s. At 25 he moved in with a closet user and starting using with him. It was causal at first, a few times a week. Is he an addict? Those few times a week evolved into daily use and after 6 months he had dug himself into a deep dark hole of addiction. His relationships with his mom, his 2, yes 2 kids and their mother. It was all coming apart. The guilt began to consume him, he moved back with his mom, was depressed and thought about meth all the time. Is he an addict? He was able to get a hold of some more meth and get high two more times before he crashed. Then he got clean. For a whole year. Except then, then he began consuming pain pills. Is he an addict? Anything from fake injuries to checking the medicine cabinet of the house he was in, he found ways to get them. He was only happy when he had them and felt those prescriptions filled a void. He felt content when he had them. Is he an addict?
To go from one drug to the next, to exhibit the behavior he did, to get to a place in his life where his life seemed complete with drugs makes him addict . Now the challenge for him and for his loved ones is to get him to realize this and to get him the help he needs.
