MADD About Texas -- One Group's Fight Against Drunk Driving
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is not a new organization. They've been working hard for years in communities like Corpus Christi and with local authorities and politicians to come up with effective ways to deal with drunk driving. But despite their efforts and many others out there alcohol addiction is still a rampant problem as are fatal car accidents related to alcohol -- but that hasn't hindered their efforts at all. While MADD was not created to deal with alcohol relapse prevention or act as an alcohol rehab center they certainly have done great things in reducing alcohol related car accidents. This non profit organization was created in 1980 and since its inception spawned 600 local chapters that have been committed to essentially eliminating drunk driving through things like public awareness, victims assistance, youth programs and public policy. Mark Houston Recovery is committed to helping you overcome alcohol addiction. Our commitment to your recovery means you'll get more than what you can expect at an alcohol rehab center. A whole lot more.
Education Is Key
A core problem with alcohol is that while there is a legal drinking age, it's still a very accessible substance for people under 21 to experience. According to a recent survey by the Texas Commission for Alcohol and Drug Abuse, more than 80 percent of teens admit to having had some experience with alcohol. The survey indicates that this open admission comes from the fact that teens say it's easier than one would think to get wine, beer and liquor. Combine this accessibility with young drivers and you can see where this leads. If in Corpus Christi like other Texas cities where there is zero tolerance for underage drinking there is sill an 80 percent chance of teens drinking then clearly more needs to be done at an earlier age. That's why MADD does everything it can to educate youth in places like Corpus Christ about the effects of drinking and driving. By supporting the implementation of education programs in K-12, colleges and universities, and using community-based programs for the general population a long term solution offers a ray of hope to this national epidemic.
Making A Difference The Way They Know How
Because Texas holds the unpleasant honor of having the highest rate of alcohol related driving fatalities, MADD has been involved several initiatives and programs that can hopefully make a difference. Programs like rallying support for ignition interlocks for convicted DUI offenders to improving the enforcement of DUI/DWI laws to supporting sobriety checkpoints to help find drunk drivers who would normally not be caught. Their dedication to doing more through awareness, education and social and political action has made a difference for countless lives in Texas and across the country. Mark Houston Recovery is doing its part as well. Its commitment to helping you through alcohol addiction or through alcohol relapse prevention has helped countless people as well. And we will continue our efforts by trying to make a difference in your life by helping you find your way on the journey to recovery.
About Corpus Christi
Also known as the All America City, Corpus Christi's delightful weather brings visitors from far and wide. Once they're in the city they can look forward to things like a bay front promenade, day trips to Mexico, King Ranch and of course the world famous Padre Island. You'll be hard pressed to find another city that boasts 255 days of sunshine year round and a median temperature of 71.2 degrees. Texas A&M University (a.k.a TAMU) is also located here as well as Howard Payne University and Del Mar College. Heading into downtown are some of the city's staple attractions along South Padre Island Drive (S.P.I.D) like the Sunrise Mall and the soon to be built Crosstown Commons which is being developed in part to complement the city's booming residential growth. Inviting in every sense of the word, this is one Texas town that has a lot to offer its residents and visitors.
