El Paso -- An EPIC Battle In Drug Prevention

The influx of illegal drugs in the United States from Mexico to Texas is yet another never-ending challenge that those involved in drug relapse  prevention and the dedicated workers at drug rehab centers have to continually confront. Unfortunately the supply and demand market that is illegal drugs compels traffickers to continue to come up with ingenious ways to get their product into the country. Thankfully there are groups of brave men and women around the country who work hard every day to stop this from happening. One place where this continues to happen is El Paso. Because of the city's particular location on the westernmost tip of the state and its proximity to the Mexican border (Juarez), it has to deal with more than just the typical trials and tribulations every major city has to deal with. That's why the Department of Justice created a report in 1974, A Secure Border: An Analysis of Issues Affecting the U.S. Department of Justice, to offer multiple suggestions of how to deal with drug and illegal alien enforcement. One of these suggestions prompted the creation of EPIC -- the El Paso Intelligence Center. It's mission was to be the city's regional intelligence center dedicated to collect and disseminate information related to drug, alien and,  weapon smuggling in support of field enforcement throughout the region. This was by no means an easy task.

Working To Make Things Better

Mark Houston is no stranger to difficult tasks. Dealing with drug addiction and drug relapse prevention takes dedication, perseverance and a willingness to try and make things better. Mark Houston Recovery deals with this difficult task because the they have dealt  with it themselves and understand what it takes. It may take more than drug rehab centers are willing to give. It takes a humanistic approach. It takes a willingness to do more.

EPIC in its effort to keep our borders safe brought in as members of its force, representatives from some of the top government enforcement agencies. But traffickers know that the efforts on the border have increased so they had to change their game by incorporating, aircrafts, sea vessels and global networks to facilitate trafficking. As a result EPIC has had to broaden its focus to go beyond the confines of El Paso and the southwest and expand to the national and international level. Without progressive thinking they lose the edge of doing what they do. In the same sense Mark Houston Recovery had to reassess the way drug rehab centers were dealing with drug addiction and drug relapse prevention. This reassessment brought to light the need to focus on the person, on the transformation and on the spiritual growth that would aid in getting on the right path to recovery. Drug addiction is not a clear cut problem with a clear cut solution but  Mark Houston Recovery is a clear cut alternative.
