Helping Stop Addiction With Family Intervention
A family intervention can be a challenging undertaking when your trying to confront a loved about their drug or alcohol addition. But if done with love and respect without confrontation and judgment it can prove to be a powreful and successful method for getting help for people who need it. Mark Houston Recovery understands the difficulty in approaching this action and what it takes to prepare yourself as a family to get to the point where you can approach your loved one about their addiction without being too harsh or judgmental. We can help guide you through the process and when he is ready for recovery we can help get him back on the road to healing.
Preparing For The Intervention -- Approaching The Addict
Initially there may be resistance, apprehension and ambivalence to doing a family intervention. Over the course of about two weeks though, a structured well thought out family intervention can be accomplished. Imagine if you will an organized group of family members and an intervention leader entering a man's home or office. The man hears how much he means to everyone there, how he affects them with his behavior, and what they want their relationship with him to be in the future. Then the man is asked to accept help now (arrangements are already in place). The tone is loving and supportive, but still firm. When he sees his family, he hears what they say and knows he can't hid or deny his addiction anymore. Mark Houston Recovery is all about accomplisment. Yes we work with our residents on recovery but not just from drugs and alocohol. Recovery from the life they lead, recovery from a way of thinking that made them feel entitled, and recovery from the feeling of hopelessness. When someone leaves Mark Houston Recovery they will have accomplished much more than they thought they could. And a big part of that starts with the family support in doing things like an intervention.
Working Together A Family Can Fight Addiction
Because each family situation is different, the scope and approach to each intervention has to be designed around the family dynamic, the participants and how they want it done. As the saying goes, what works for one may not work for another. Even though there is about an average two week preparation time for some families it might only take a few days for others. For any intervention it is best to plan ahead and with the advice of a professional who is experienced in the intervention process. With their input and guidance you can hopefully come up with a reasonable solution of how to approach your loved one and get him the help he needs. And Mark Houston Recovery will also be there to support you as he goes through the recovery process. We appreciate your dedication and commitment to getting him better and we put in the same amount of commitment and dedication to his recovery from drugs or alcohol.
