The Path to Permanently Overcoming Drug Abuse

Many excellent licensed treatment centers are available in Texas and throughout the U.S. where individuals with a goal of overcoming drug abuse can find medically supervised drug addiction rehab programs. These programs vary from outpatient treatment to longer inpatient treatment programs. The general consensus is that the longer the drug addicted individual experiences quality rehab and recovery programs, the better his chances are for permanent drug-free living.

A recovery center with a difference

With this end in mind, Mark D. Houston established the Mark Houston Recovery Center, a private residential center outside of Austin, Texas where adult men can reside for 90 consecutive days after having been treated in drug addiction rehab programs. The 3-month program that Mark Houston has created springs from his professional background working in major alcohol and drug addiction rehab centers. Embracing all aspects of recovery, the Mark Houston program includes 12 Steps, Life Skills, Spiritual Laws, Fitness and more. It is not a faith-based program per se, yet it respects and honors all religions by emphasizing the basic spiritual laws that apply to all-essentially demonstrating the behaviors and values that make life worthwhile, the ones that determine the difference between personal success and failure.

Powerful program based on universal principles

Mark Houston makes a simple statement of his recovery philosophy: “Our objective is to model the realization that we are physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual beings. We demonstrate how to integrate all four of these elements to experience the sense of inner peace necessary to achieve permanent recovery, happiness, and joy in daily living.” To read more about Mark's philosophy regarding alcohol and drug addiction rehabilitation and recovery, and how he came to start the Mark Houston Recovery Center, click here.

A book to help others on the self-transformation journey

Mark is also a respected author in the field of substance abuse (alcohol and drug abuse) recovery. With friend and fellow-author Floyd Henderson, Mark has published “A Twelve-Step Journey to SELF-Transformation”, in which he tells the story of his own personal journey through alcoholism and drug abuse which was one of “pain, sadness, joy, shame, remorse, regret, laughter, anger and finally peace.”

In his book Mark Houston also reveals how the goal of peace seemed to elude him over the years as alcohol and drug addiction took over his life, until his life-altering experience in 1982, which led him to his career in drug and alcohol abuse rehabilitation, and more recently to the realization of his vision of a creating a unique recovery center where men can come to reshape and restart their lives. Of that life-changing turning point Mark says: “I had an experience with a Higher Power that separated me from alcohol and drugs and I began my journey of SELF transformation.”
