Relapse Trigger #7: Having A Strained Relationship With A Spouse Who Still Uses Alcohol Or Drugs

A commitment to a sober live requires some sacrifice, especially when it comes to the company we surround yourself with. It is not in our best interest or our spouse's best interest to enable them to continue using. If they will not stop, we may need to take drastic action to remove ourself from the situation.

Relapse Prevention Action Plan:

  • Remove yourself from any situation where you will be exposed to alcohol or drug abuse – even if that person is your spouse.
  • Talk candidly with your spouse about their alcohol or drug use and how it affects your recovery. Ask them to stop or at least take it outside the home.
