Relapse Trigger #2: Keeping Isolated By Not Attending Meetings Or Working With My Sponsor
If you've embraced the 12 Step program, you know how critical it is to stay close to a support group. Even after years in sobriety, having a support group that we can count on is essential. No matter if we are doing just fine right now, there will come a time when we need to count on someone for support. When we isolate ourselves from our support network, it can be difficult to find someone to call when that time comes.
Relapse Prevention Action Plan:
- Maintain regular contact with one or two people that you can call when you need an immediate pep talk.
- Visit alternate support groups until you find the one that fits you best. They are not all the same and there is most likely one out there that will feel comfortable.
- If you do not feel comfortable attending something organized then set up your own. Enlist friends and family and tell them exactly the type of support you need. Support groups are lifesavers, but they don't have to be big or formal.
